Description | Hematite, Fe2O3 (iron oxide), is an important ore of iron and it's blood red color (in the powdered form) makes it a common pigment. Crystals of hematite are rare; fine grained masses or powdered forms are more common. Hematite may have a silvery black metallic appearance, but red (ocher), orange and brown varieties are more common. This picture is 4 cm across. |
