Title | Sylvanite in a fine breccia |
Description | Most gold occurs as native gold (nearly pure), or as an alloy with other metals, such as silver and copper. Lesser amounts of gold are found in telluride minerals such as sylvanite. Sylvanite, AgAuTe4 (silver gold telluride), is one of the more common gold bearing minerals, although it generally makes up only a minor part of a gold ore. In this specimen, the silvery sylvanite filled spaces between clasts in a fine breccia. The sample is 11 cm across. |
