Title | Germanite with tennantite |
Description | This sample is mostly tarnished germanite (Cu26Fe4Ge4S32), a rare reddish-gray (when fresh) mineral. It is a primary ore of germanium but, when tarnished, germanite can be overlooked. This specimen also contains tennantite, a copper-iron-arsenic-sulfide. The two, however, are hard to distinguish in this photo. The sample is 8 cm in longest dimension. |
