Description | This sample contains metallic silver molybdenite (MoS2) and a brownish hydrated molybdenum oxide mineral called ilsemanite. The ilsemanite formed by alteration of the molybdenite, much the way iron bearing minerals hydrate to produce limonite and goethite. Molybdenite is an important “moly ore.” This sample is 6 cm across. |
