TitleCinnabar with metacinnabar
DescriptionCinnabar (HgS) is a mercury sulfide that typically has a vermillion to pink or scarlet color. Metacinnabar (a different mineral) has the same composition but a black or gray color, and sometimes a metallic luster. Both are important ore minerals of mercury. This specimen, a fine grained mix of both minerals, is about 8 cm in longest dimension.
