Title | Pyrite from Taipei, Taiwan |
Description | The top of this specimen is almost all pyrite (FeS2), commonly called “Fools Gold.” Real gold, however, has a more “buttery” color and does not appear so metallic. Pyrite crystals often form as cubes, although only a hint of cubic symmetry can be seen here. This sample is massive, and the classic pyritohedrons or cubes are not visible. The specimen is 8 cm across. |
