| Description | Fluorite (CaF2) is a mineral that comes in many different colors. Deep blue-violet is most common, but lighter blue green varieties such as the one shown are also quite common. Fluorite can be very attractive but is not prized as a gem because it is too soft. Fluorite forms cubic crystals; the cubes in this photo are about 3 cm on edge. |
