Description | The Moenkopi and Chinle Formations are both lower Triassic in age. The reddish slope is typical of the Moenkopi Fm. in the San Rafael Swell. The purple and gray slopes above are the Chinle Fm. These soft formations erode more easily than the sandstones above and below them, and so provide benches and breaks in slopes. |
