TitleVeins of gypsum in mudstone
DescriptionGypsum has many different appearances. Here it is brown (an atypical color) and it has filled fractures formed by cracking in a mudstone (a common occurrence). Gypsum has high solubility in water, so it is easily dissolved and transported by groundwater and often preciptates in cracks, vugs and other openings. This specimen, from an unknown location, is 15 cm across.
