Description | Labradorite is an intermediate member of the plagioclase feldspar series, having a composition equivalent to 50-70% anorthite (CaAl2Si2O8) and 50-30% albite (NaAlSi3O8). It may be a dull, dark colored mineral but often shows labrodorescence, a type of play of colors (schiller). Intense colors may range from the typical blues and violets through greens, yellows and oranges. The colors are especially intense in the photo shown because the specimen (8 cm across) has been polished. |
