Description | Galena (PbS) is by far the most important lead ore mineral. It is the most common lead mineral, containing 86 wt% lead (Pb) and only 14 wt% sulfur (S). Galena often forms as well developed cubes (this specimen) with a silvery metallic luster (not this specimen). The cubes in the photograph are about 2.5 cm on edge. They are coated with reddish iron oxides. |
