TitleGranite outcrop, US 50, 20 miles east of Salida, Colorado
DescriptionThis is a typical granite outcrop. The pink color, many joints and fractures, and rounding due to weathering are distinctive. Granite is a tough rock, but weathering forces are relentless. In many places, granitic outcrops become completely rounded to produce domes or tors composed of rounded blocks that appear to be stacked on top of each other.
