The pink rhodochrosite (MnCO3) is crusted by a layer of yellow-brown calcite (CaCO3) (middle top). The Joplin area is a famous mining district and is well know for producing many spectacular mineral specimens. Lead and zinc were the top mineral commodities mined in the area. |
