Description | Parisite is one of the few rare-earth carbonate minerals. It has formula Ca(Ce,La,Nd)2(CO3)3F2 (calcium cerium lanthanum neodymium carbonate fluoride). It is typically white to clear but may also be various shades of yellow and brown. In this 3 cm wide specimen, white-gray translucent parisite has grown on silver-gray galena (PbS). Parisite is a significant rare-earth ore mineral at the bastnaesite mines of Mountain Pass, California, where this sample comes from. |
