Description | Hydromagnesite, as its name implies, is a hydrated magnesium carbonate. Specifically, it is Mg5(CO3)4(OH)2·4H2O. It most commonly forms by alteraion of other Mg-rich minerals, especially magnesite. In caves it sometimes forms a precipitation called “moonmilk.” This sample is 9 cm across. |
