Description | This is a polished slab of a type of marble called Cipolino. It is mostly calcite with darker layers containing blue-gray quartz. Marble is a general name given to metamorphosed limestones and dolostones; marbles may have any of many different appearances. Marble is relatively soft and easy to cut and shape, and so is often used as building stone or in art works. This slab is 11 cm across. |
