Description | Jarosite, an uncommon mineral, forms by weathering in arid regions. It has composition KFe3(SO4)2(OH)6. It is closely related to the mineral natrojarosite, which has the same crystal structure but different chemistry. Jarosite contains potassium instead of natrojarosite's sodium. The two minerals are difficult to distinguish without a chemical test. This sample is 8 cm across. |
