DescriptionCalcite, CaCO3, forms crystals of many different forms. This sample shows relatively equant crystals up to 1.5 cm across. Their form is sometimes referred to as “nail head spar.” Nail head spar is not rare, but the more classic calcite form is “dog tooth spar” - longer and more pointed than the crystals in this picture.
