Title | Polyhalite with halite from Carlsbad, New Mexico |
Description | This sample is mostly polyhalite, but a small inclusion of halite can be seen on the upper right edge. Polyhalite is a marine evaporite mineral, but is not as common as others such as calcite, dolomite, gypsum, or anhydrite. It has composition K2Ca2Mg(SO4)4ยท2H2O, and in some places is concentrated enough to serve as an ore of potassium. This sample is about 7.5 cm across. |
