DescriptionPickeringite, MgAl2(SO4)4·22H2O generally forms as crusts on other minerals, in fibrous mats, or in reniform (kidney-shaped) blobs. It is a highly soluble sulfate mineral, and is especially abundant in deserts of the west coast of South America. This specimen is 15 cm across.
