Title | Brochantite from Chuquicamata, Chile |
Description | Brochantite (the green mineral) is a copper sulfate hydroxide, having general formula Cu4SO4(OH)6. It forms by oxidation of copper ore minerals and is hard to distinguish from some other secondary copper minerals. It typically occurs as acicular (needle-like) or fibrous crystals forming coatings and tufts. The red material is probably cuprite, CuO. These are both important copper ore minerals in some deposits. |
