| Title | Pyromorphite on quartz from Phoenixville, Pennsylvania |
| Description | Pyromorphite (green mineral) is a lead chlorophoshpate, Pb5(PO4)3Cl. Here we see it as an overgrowth on quartz. Pyromorphite forms a chemical series with two other minerals: mimetite (Pb5(AsO4)3Cl) and vanadinite (Pb5(VO4)3Cl). Pyromorphite is usually green, mimetite is usually yellow, and vanadinite is usually red, but distinguishing these minerals by color is sometimes misleading. |
