| Title | Barite and anhydrite |
| Description | This sample, about 15 cm wide, contains both barite (BaSO4) and anhydrite (CaSO4). They are difficult to distinguish because they are similar in color. The barite is harder and has a slightly glassy appearance. This sample formed by precipitation from water. Originally it probably contained barite and gypsum (CaSO4ยท2H2O), but dewatering changed the gypsum to anhydrite. |
