Title | Apatite in calcite, from near Otter Lake, Quebec |
Description | This specimen contains dark green apatite cyrstals embedded in calcite. Apatite, Ca5(PO4)3(OH,F,Cl) is the most common phosphate mineral. It occurs in many rock types, but usually as small disseminated grains or fragments. Large well formed crystals, such as the 6-7 cm long cyrstals shown here, are sometimes found in certain contact metamorphic rocks. |
