Description | Thr blue material is turquoise, a valuable mineral used for ornmentation and jewelry. It has been mined since at least 6000 BC (by early Egyptians). More recently it has been used by Native Americans and it is quite popular with natives and with tourists in the southwestern United States. Turquoise has composition CuAl6(PO4)4(OH)8ยท5H2O. This specimen is about 9 cm across. |
