Description | This sheared rock is from the Ivera Zone, Italy, a zone highly deformed by the collision of the European and African continents during the Alpine Orogeny. The dominant minerals are biotite, quartz, garnet and plagioclase. In thin section, sillimanite, fibrolite and possibly K-feldspar can also be seen. This rock is quarried and used as building and roofing stone. |
