DescriptionPhosphorites are sedimentary rocks composed primarily of phosphate minerals. Generally, they are marine rocks, and generally the phosphate mineral is fluorapatite. Some phosphorites (such as the example shown) form from bird droppings (guano). Phosphorites are often mined to produce fertilizer and other products.
