Title | Fossil oysters from the Mancos shale, San Rafael Swell |
Description | These fossil oysters have weathered out of the Mancos Shale (Cretaceous) and collected on top of the Dakota Sandstone. They are well exposed in cliffs adjacent to Utah Highway 24, mileposts 111-112, in the San Rafael Swell of Utah. They are so plentiful that they have been used as road building material. The largest oysters are about 5 cm in longest dimension. |
