DescriptionThis is a sample of the chalk that makes up the famous White Cliffs at Dover, England. Chalk is a name given to fine grained, white limestones. This particular formation is Cretaceous. Like many other chalks the world around, it is composed primarily of the remains of dead microscopic sea critters. The black-on-blue numbers are 1.5 cm across.
