TitleQuartz-muscovite schist, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania
DescriptionThis rock was labelled a “quartz-sericite schist” in the Ward’s Collection of Classic North American Rocks. It has, however, little schistose character because it is nearly entirely quartz. The term sericite refers to fine grained white mica, but in this rock the small amount of white mica is mostly muscovite that is easily seen with the naked eye or hand specimen. This sample is 8.5 cm across.
