Description | Franklinite (black) and willemite (whitish) are both zinc minerals. Franklinite is a Zn-Fe oxide and willemite is a Zn silicate. Both are rare minerals, but they were found in such large quantities at Franklin, New Jersey, that they were important ores of zinc. The deposit at Franklin, is truly unique. Not only are franklinite and willemite found there but other rare minerals are also found, some in very large quantities. This sample is 11 cm across. |
