Description | Iodargyite aka iodyrite is a silver halide with the chemical composition AgI. This sample, 3.5 cm across, has a deep brown-yellow color, but many other colorations are possible. Iodargyrite occurs as a secondary mineral in oxidized zone of arid silver ore deposits. It is named after its chemical composition of iodine, the Greek iodes meaning “violet” and silver, the Latin argentum. |
