DescriptionThis sample of muscovite is from a mine near Hill City, South Dakota. It is about 6 cm across. The sample also contains small amounts of cassiterite, but the cassiterite is hard to see. This rock has been described as a greisen, meaning that it formed by hydrothermal alteration due to water vapor containing fluorine.
