Description | Syenite is a type of intrusive igneous rock containing abundant alkali feldspar, and usually minor quartz and plagioclase. One or more mafic minerals, and a number of other interesting minerals including sodalite may be present as well. This specimen contains conspicuous blue sodalite and white-pink K-feldspar. White plagioclase and black biotite are also present but are more difficult to see. This specimen is 8 cm across. |
