DescriptionHere we see quartz (SiO2) crystals that have grown on the walls of vugs in a sandstone. The sandstone is stained yellow by limonite. Limonite is not a true mineral but a mixture of several related hydrated iron oxide minerals. This sample is about 7 cm across.
