DescriptionSome rare samples of hausmannite, Mn3O4, are bright metallic, euhedral, and beautiful. The dirty brown specimen shown here is more typical. This hausmannite formed by alteration of other manganese minerals and is similar to limonite in appearance. Samples like this are typical of some oxidized portions of manganese rich ore deposits. The specimen is 5 cm across.
