Description | This is a serpentinite, formed by alteration of a mafic igneous rock. This type of serpentinite is called verde antique. It is fine grained, composed mostly of antigorite (serpentine) and talc. Some thin veins contain chrysotile (another form of serpentine) and magnesite. Part of this sample has been polished. This sample is 9.5 cm across. |
