Description | Folds in Mesozoic sedimentary rocks above the Kali Gandaki river near the town of Jomosom, Nepal. The rocks are part of the tectonic unit known as the Tethyan Himalaya and were folded as they were thrust southward in the hanging wall of the Main Central Thrust. The slope in the foreground is approximately 1000 m high. The peak in the clouds in the upper right is Dhaulagiri (8,172 m). |
