| Description | Tufa is a name given to rocks deposited by hot springs or streams. The term generally applies to deposits of calcite, but sometimes has been used to describe silica deposits as well. A hard, dense, variety of tufa is termed travertine. This buff, porous carbonate tufa contains plant impressions but they cannot be seen in this specimen. It is 8.5 cm across. |
