TitleContact between the Niobrara and the Pierre Formations, North Dakota
DescriptionThe buff-colored shale and calcareous clay seen are part of the Niobrara Formation. The Niobrara is overlain by gray shale and smooth bentonitic clay from Pembina Member of the the Pierre Formation. The contact between the two formations lies beneath the lowest bentonite band of the Pierre Formation.
