DescriptionThe buff-colored shale and calcareous clay seen are part of the Niobrara Formation. The Niobrara is overlain by gray shale and smooth bentonitic clay from the Pembina Member of the Pierre Formation. The contact between the 2 formations lies beneath the lowest bentonite band of the Pierre Formation.
