DescriptionGully exposes shale of the Carlile Formation, among the oldest bedrock formations exposed in North Dakota. Notice the abundant, large concretions and selenite (gypsum) crystals. The yellow mineral on the surface in places is sulfur, and the odor of sulfur is at times apparent in the gully.
