TitleThin section of hornblende syenite
DescriptionThis is a cross polarized view of hornblende syenite. Texture is anhedral granular with considerable grain size variation. Slightly sericitized sodic plag and orthoclase are the feldspars. A few small grains of quartz are present. Biotite, the more abundant mafic, contains numerous magnetite inclusions. Hornblende, mottled brown with some green, includes magnetite and apatite. Sphene and pyrite (cheifly included in large magnetites) are the other accessories.
