| Description | Phlogopite, KMg3(Si3Al)O10(F,OH)2 (potassium magnesium aluminum silicate hydroxide) is a rarer member of the mica group and is not well known even by mineral collectors. It is mined mainly for its uses as a heat and electrical insulator. Phlogopite is iron poor and biotite rich. Its name comes from the Greek flogopos, meaning “resembling fire”. |
