Description | This is a tillite - a conglomerate formed by lithification (compaction and cementation) of glacial till (unsorted glacial sedimentary deposits). The white veins formed later when mineral rich waters flowed through cracks. Almost everything in this sample (the veins, the large pebbles, and the fine grained material) is quartz or some other form of silica. The sample is 25 cm in longest dimension. |
