DescriptionMarie Lake is a tarn perched in a high glacial valley. Boulders and underlying bedrock are all granite, part of the Sierra Nevada Batholith. The batholith, which forms the core of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, consists of a series of Mesozoic aged plutons, not a single intrusive body.
