TitleCarnallite from Strassfurt, Germany
DescriptionCarnallite is a hydrated potassium magnesium chloride, KMgCl3-6H2O. It forms as a residual mineral when sea water has undergone evaporation. Carnallite precipitates with other evaporate minerals such as sylvite, typically in massive beds. Crystals are rare and unstable because they absorb water from humid air. Carnallite is an ore mineral of potash, a component of many fertilizers. These pieces are 2-3 cm in longest dimension.
