DescriptionMellite belongs to the silicate group. Melilite has the chemical formula (Ca,Na)2(Al,Mg,Fe++)(Si,Al)2O7. It is found in igneous rocks poor in silica and alkalies. The name comes from the Greek, meli meaning honey and lithos meaning stone. These samples are approximately 1 cm.
