DescriptionEpidote has chemical formula, Ca2(Al,Fe)3(SiO4)3(OH). Epidote is a structurally complex mineral having both single silicate tetrahedrons and double silicate tetrahedrons. It is typically fine grained or massive with a “pistachio” color. Coarse crystals such as the ones shown here with salmon colored calcite, are often very dark green. This sample is appproximately 4 cm in longest dimension.
