Title | Cerargyrite (chlorargyrite) from Hornsilver Mine in Frisco, Utah |
Description | The brownish material is chlorargyrite, AgCl, also sometimes called cerargyrite or horn silver. Chlorargyrite is often white, yellow or light brown when fresh, but it darkens as it tarnishes when exposed to air and light. It forms in weathering zones of silver-sulfide deposits. This sample contains several other secondary minerals but they are too fine grained and altered to identify. This specimen is about 5 cm across. |
